Bio

Chris Nelson grew up on eastern Long Island, where she spent summers on the beach, daydreaming about her future life as a famous author and flirting with skin cancer.

She earned her undergraduate degree at Duke University and her MFA at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts Program in Dramatic Writing.

Recently awarded the Frank Nelson Doubleday Fellowship 2009 for her novel THE CHURCH OF LAST RESORT, Chris has also been recognized with The Reynolds Price Award, two Benenson Awards, and grants from the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico in Taos, NM, the Jentel Artist Residency Program in Banner, WY, and the Julia and David White Artists’ Colony in Ciudad Colón, Costa Rica.

A native New Yorker, Chris now calls Wyoming home. She enjoys a good day’s work in her studio, fast runs on dirt roads, and watching movies in her pajamas.

She still dreams about autographing her best-sellers, but today she wears sunscreen.
